What is in a name?
"Auxilia" is derived from Latin, referring to the auxiliary troops in the Roman army, which supported the main legionary forces. These units were composed of non-citizen soldiers and provided specialized capabilities like cavalry and light infantry, crucial for diverse military operations. Over time “auxiliary” evolved to describe a person or unit that is employed to assist others in their work. Even an “auxiliary verb” is a “helping verb”.
In Roman times non-citizens joined the Auxilia and gained citizenship through service. Similarly, we hope that ambitious and meticulous workers in the Commonwealth can join Auxilia, learn skills and master tools, and eventually gain the modern-day equivalent of Roman citizenship; liberty and dignity from a career in technology, unshackled by borders and local constraints.
Ultimately, our modern-day Auxilia mirrors the Roman auxiliary troops' role in providing specialized support to our generations’ Roman Legionaries; startup founders and early-stage investors.
